“Cairngorms Characters” examines the lives of the people living and working in the Cairngorms National Park and how their lives are connected to the local landscape.
In this enlightening journey, broadcaster Cameron Angus Mackay speaks with a range of characters about how the National Park has influenced their lives and businesses – and in some cases, how it has been at the heart of some of their most significant life decisions.
Each episode of the series covers a different theme. For example, ‘Natural & Outdoor Activity’ kicking off with Tilly Smith exploring the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd and a Balmoral Estate safari with a difference! Next, we’ll do some forest bathing, relax and restore ourselves.
This episode features sweet treats, beer, and foraging with Cameron catching up with the dynamic duo behind Braemar’s Hazelnut Pâtisserie, Sam Faircliff of Cairngorm Brewery, and Ghillie Basan, a food ambassador. Undoubtedly, the Cairngorms National Park has been a significant inspiration for many of the products and recipes offered by all three businesses.
A vital component of the Cairngorms Characters podcast series is storytelling. The Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore is the right place to start this episode by telling the story of the Park and its people. He also attends a guided walk about Secret Strathspey, introducing the listeners to some hidden gems and a Yellow Welly tour around Braemar with Simon Blackett.
